Student Testimonials & Reviews
Our students are amazing. From their long hours of hard work and dedication to their life-changing success stories, we could not be more proud of everything they have achieved on their journey to becoming web developers. The University of Richmond Boot Camps curricula are rigorous and designed to help aspiring coders, data analysts, or cybersecurity professionals reach their goals.
We know that choosing a boot camp is a big decision that can change the course of your life, so who better to get advice from than those individuals who have been right where you are? Read the reviews and testimonials below to hear directly from a few students and alumni.
The experience was overly positive. My instructor was a very interesting and engaging teacher, and the classmates I met were great to work with. I chose to attend because I wanted to enter the field of Data Analysis, and the program has increased my confidence in pursuing this field.
I definitely learned a lot! I was working in an unrelated field, and the training I received enabled me to get a job in the IT field. That was my goal coming into the program, and I feel that I achieved that goal.
This program has changed my life. I finally found something I feel confident at.
I took a leap of faith to join the program because I was interested in tech and wanted to make a career change. It was an awesome life changing experience. The instructors were experienced and it showed. The TAs were helpful, and the Success Manager was awesome. I also want to give a shout out to Alisha Patterson for supporting me through my job search. Not only did she give great advice, but she was also very supportive throughout the journey.
This program is very rewarding for those able and driven to put in the necessary time and energy. The instructors and TAs are knowledgeable and able to enhance the curriculum with real-life usage demonstrations. The academic experience is backed up with practical application. Very well executed.
I chose this because I needed an on-site, formal environment to continue my studies. Before the program, I was (irregularly) engaged in MOOCs, self-paced platforms like freecodecamp / udemy / codecademy, and self-study through books and online documentation. The bootcamp format was a way for me to enforce discipline. It kickstarted a process of discovery that resulted in the acquisition of real skills in a predictable timeframe.
The result is that I’m now able to apply to jobs in software development, and have confidence that when I show up on the first day of work, I’ll be able to rise to the challenge. I can also leverage my skills on the freelance market for supplemental income and reinforcement, and pursue my own projects and ideas.
This course literally changed my life. It enabled me to do a full career change in just 6 months. I left a job with a great salary that I spent ten years building. My new position, for which I am qualified ONLY because of what I learned in the boot camp, got me a job making almost exactly what I was. I’m very much looking forward to the future.
Prior to the start of the program it had been more than ten years since I participated in a formal analysis training program and I wanted to gain a working knowledge of current data analysis and visualization tools. The program increased my confidence in my analysis skills, expanded my awareness of what can be done using current tools and made me a better story teller.
I attended the bootcamp because I wanted to make a complete career shift. Now that I have achieved my goal, I can say the bootcamp was instrumental in making this happen.
In my current role, I’ve found myself constantly challenging my technical limits in trying to find new ways to solve old problems. Report development, data analytics, and automation were all things I knew I wanted to be able to do but was only scratching the surface of. In teaching myself the very basics or fundamentals of Python and SQL programming, I knew that I was hooked and that there was a TON to learn…but I didn’t come from a CS background. That’s when I found this bootcamp online and determined that it would be an excellent opportunity to extrapolate on the self-acquired knowledge I had and pivot from Finance to something more IT related. It’s been and continues to be a constant challenge, but through this bootcamp I’ve gained a greater understanding for programming and data analytics, I’ve made some lifelong friends, and was able to change career directions and land myself a software developer position. I’m by no means a master but think I’m capable enough to continue my studies and be of use in one way or another at this new job. I’d recommend the course to anyone that is self-driven but appreciates and craves hands-on, collaboration based learning programs. Thanks for accepting me into the bootcamp and enabling me to be where I am today!
I chose to attend because I wanted to develop my skill set to be used in my current position. After I started I realized how much I really enjoy programming in general and tried to gain as much knowledge as possible. I was able to immediately implement many of the skills I learned within the first two months making my work much more enjoyable and allowed me the opportunity to do work on higher level projects. A few weeks before the end of the program I was offered a job as a developer for a Richmond based company. There are a few tools I am spending extra curricular time learning on my own, but doing this program gave me a solid foundation and strengthened my thought process enough to have the confidence to learn new tools and implement them myself. In addition to my new career opportunity, I also accepted a position as a Teaching Assistant for the incoming class. I had a great time learning this stuff and I’d like to continue being a part of that with new students.
I came into this course not knowing much about coding and I am leaving a very capable full-stack developer. It is amazing how much we were taught in such a short amount of time.
Like others have said here though, you will only get as much out of the class how much you put into it. Plan on spending around twenty hours a week outside of class working on assignments and reviewing what was taught in class. If you are not willing to do this you will probably struggle.
The program offers many resources to help you including office hours, tutoring sessions, and supplemental videos on coursework. My experience with the instructors an TAs was great – everyone was willing to assist you and wanted to see you succeed. In addition, the comradery amongst students was invaluable. I’ve already been offered freelance JavaScript work. It is definitely worth the investment in yourself and your future!
Whether you have years of experience or none at all, this course will help you open your mind to a different way of thinking. At times, it will be challenging and stressful, but luckily there are several outlets for support.
From day one you are introduced to your Student Success Manager, who is truly there during every step of the way to help guide you through the course. The instructors and TAs are great and easily available to assist with any obstacles you may encounter.
Even though you will spend a lot of time frustrated…the satisfaction of figuring it out will become addictive! You will learn that there are multiple ways to work out any problem. You will not only be learning how to code – you will learn things about yourself and what you’re really capable of. I’d recommend this course to everyone!
I had very little experience with coding before I started this bootcamp and I was worried about returning to school after so long, but the support that’s available for students is amazing.
I’m so thankful for my instructors and TAs. They were very responsive and available whenever I needed help, even just beyond academic support. The entire team and Yuri, our Student Success Manager, were all emotionally supportive.
The course is fast-paced and packed full of information. There is a lot of material to internalize, process, and use on your own so feeling stressed out becomes second nature. However, I can’t believe I came this far in five and a half months, creating the full-stack web applications I did. I’m excited about the possibilities that await after this boot camp and would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a life-changing experience.
